Placenta Power – The Book

Knowledge. Wonder. Femininity.

The placenta is a miracle organ. And yet, to this day, it remains somewhat unseen. With Placenta Power, I wanted to change that: to bring the placenta out of the shadows – in a well-founded, understandable way, and with a wink. A book about the placenta that connects research, tradition, and body awareness.

Why this book?

“The placenta is a marvel of nature. It fascinates, nourishes, connects – and heals, if you know how.”

Scientific publications are not always easily accessible – almost always in English, written in specialist “slang,” or behind paywalls. Yet, knowledge about the placenta can be helpful for so many people: interested parents, birth attendants, and professionals.

With Placenta Power, I want to share my knowledge. Spark curiosity. And show: The placenta is more than biology – it is a powerful organ, a ritual symbol, a resource, a wonder.

I want to inform without lecturing. Inspire without idealizing. And encourage self-determined decisions during the postpartum period – free from shame, supported by knowledge.

For…

Placenta Power is for everyone who wants to take a closer look: professionally interested, personally affected, or simply curious.

Postpartum women who desire a well-founded, self-determined decision.

Midwives & Doulas who want to expand their knowledge and break taboos.

Doctors & birth attendants who want to provide holistic care for women.

Fathers who are curious and want to offer support.

Anyone interested who wants to learn more about the female miracle organ.

Voices on the Book

Feedback from readers from very different contexts – whether midwife, professional, or simply fascinated by the miracle organ.

Ingeborg Stadelmann, from the Foreword

(…) an exciting read for expectant parents, to make well-informed decisions about what they consider right for themselves regarding the placenta after birth.

Cornelia Enning

The texts are easy to understand for laypersons and professionals alike, as the authors are experts in the field. As a midwife, I can only agree with the message that the placenta deserves its own special day.

More Reviews

A very exciting topic and wonderfully presented. I gifted the book to my postpartum midwife, and she is very enthusiastic.

More Reviews

The book is based on the latest research findings and clearly (great photos and illustrations) and understandably explains the structure, function, and use of the placenta.

Placenta Science

It is important to me to convey knowledge about the placenta in an understandable and practical way – based on a solid scientific foundation. Because only what is evidence-based provides true guidance. What is also important to me: looking beyond the obvious and occasionally changing perspectives. Here you will find insights into my research on this miracle organ.

A scientific consideration of placenta remedies in the postpartum period

A not-so-new trend among mothers: consuming their own placenta as a remedy during the postpartum period. Alleged benefits include increased milk production, improved mood, accelerated recovery, and a subjective feeling of “more energy” during the postpartum period. I wanted to investigate: What is inside the placenta – and is consumption dangerous?

Placenta Articles

Here you will find selected specialist articles and publications about the placenta – scientifically sound and (mostly) openly accessible.

Some of the photographs can be ordered as high-quality Placenta Prints – as an expression of connection, memory, and feminine power.

Placenta Comic

With great sensitivity and a touch of humor, Sandruschka has captured the world of the placenta in a comic – vividly, lovingly, and surprisingly educational. A different perspective on a special organ.
